These are potent drugs that can have significant side effects, including liver damage, kidney damage, and potentially permanent changes in color vision and visual acuity. These medications also interact with PROTEASE INHIBITORS, the mainstay of treatment for HIV/AIDS, which creates treatment challenges when tuberculosis coexists with HIV. Men who harbor M. tuberculosis, though have no illness, may take iso- niazid for two years to prevent the emergence of symptoms and eradicate the mycobacteria from their bodies.
